If you feel like you’re lacking some excitement in your life, learning a new skill or hobby is a great solution. You’ll meet interesting people and do things you never thought possible. Step out of your comfort zone and impress your friends with these unique things you can learn to do in Florida.
1. Soar through the air on a zip line.
Zip lining is a great way to see Florida's natural beauty from a bird's-eye view. There are so many places to try a zip line in Florida: Gatorland in Orlando, Forever Florida in St. Cloud and the Baytowne Adventure Zone in Florida are just a few.
2. Learn about the Japanese language and culture.
The Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens in Delray Beach offers classes in the art of bonsai and Ikebana flower arrangements. If plants aren't your thing, they also offer all different levels of classes to learn Japanese.
3. Try catching a wave.
Okay, so it's not really as unique as some of these, but it's definitely something you can't learn to do in every state. Take advantage of living near our many beaches and give surfing a try.
4. Go back to school---Folk School
The Crowley Folk School in Sarasota can teach you any art or craft you'd like to learn, from woodworking to mushroom cultivation. Schools like this are popping up everywhere these days, so search for one near you.
5. Experience the rush of driving a luxury speed machine.
There are several companies that teach performance driving in Florida. Pictured is Miami Exotic Auto Racing, but there's also the Richard Petty Driving Experience for those closer to Daytona Beach.
6. Jump from a plane.
Got nerves of steel? Skydiving is a good way to find out. Many people describe this rush as a life-changing experience. Pictured is a jump with Skydive DeLand.
7. Clown around in Lake Placid.
If you've ever dreamed of being a professional clown, or you just want to learn more about this exotic art form, Toby the Clown Foundation's College and Museum could be the place for you. For those of you who are afraid of clowns, this would probably be scarier than skydiving.
8. Fly through the air on a real trapeze.
If you went to the circus more for the acrobats than the clowns, Tito Gaona's Flying Trapeze Academy & Flying Fantasy Circus in Venice can show you what it feels like to fly.
9. Visit the Morean Arts Center in St. Petersburg and learn to make gifts that will blow your friends away.
This center offers classes in clay and glass making taught by professional artists.
10. Why not try Paddleboarding?
You can learn everything from basic paddleboarding to paddleboard yoga at Aquaholic Adventures in Islamadora. Businesses like this are popping up all over the state, so search for one near you.
