Spring In Texas

What are some things to do in Texas in spring?
Texas is blessed with amazingly mild spring weather, so it is easy for us to get outside and enjoy nature. Here are a few fun things to do in Texas in spring when the sun is warm and the air is still cool:

  • Go for a swim at Balmorhea State Park, Toyahvale, TX: On a warm spring day in Texas, one of our favorite places to visit is the pretty incredible, and refreshing, swimming hole at Balmorhea State Park. If you haven't been there yet, you'll be impressed by the crystal-clear water that looks like you could be in the Caribbean. The natural pool is unique because it is the world's largest natural swimming pool at 25 feet deep with 15 million gallons of water over 1.75 acres. This spring-fed pool comes from the nearby San Solomon Springs.
  • Texas Tulips, Pilot Point, TX: On a cooler spring day before swimming is an option, we love spending time in this stunning tulip field. With around 100 different varieties of tulips all in neat rows, each more colorful than the last, it is a truly mesmerizing sight. And the fresh spring air is simply intoxicating. Your best chance at seeing the tulips in their prime would be to visit around mid-February to early April. If it feels like spring is arriving earlier in Texas there is a good chance that you can enjoy the spring bloom earlier as well.
  • Dance with butterflies at Krause Springs, Spicewood, TX: Not only is Krause Springs a wonderful place to find natural springs in Texas, (there are 32 natural springs on the property) but there is a delightful butterfly garden as well. Take a short walk from these magical pools to find an even more enchanting secret garden. Sit quietly while you listen to wind chimes singing in the spring air while looking out at the lush green landscape dotted with pockets of vibrant flowers. As you sit in perfect silence you might even hear the delicate flutter of the most beautiful flying insects in all of Texas. Dozens of butterflies!

Of course, some of our favorite spring activities in Texas have to do with throwing on our favorite well-worn pair of hiking shoes and exploring many of our wonderful hiking trails.
