Wheyward Girl is a full service cheese shop. The owner, Barbara Jenness, is an award-winning master cheesemaker and a member of the American Cheese Society. She definitely knows her stuff when it comes to producing some of Northern California's finest cheese.
Funny enough, Jenness actually stumbled upon cheesemaking almost by accident. She was living on a small farm in rural Michigan when she began making soap from goat's milk. However, her goats were producing a lot more milk than she could use. So, Jenness tried her hand at making cheese, and the rest is history.
Jenness moved to Nevada City in 2013 and fell in love with the charming, small-town atmosphere. One major thing was missing, though: a cheese shop. Jenness set to work to fix that and opened Wheyward Girl Creamery in 2015.
The small shop stocks and sells cheeses from all over the world. When it comes to cheese, you name it and they probably have it! They carry cow, goat, and sheeps milk cheeses, with a healthy mix of both domestic and imported cheese.
The store also doubles as a creamery where Jenness shares her wealth of cheese knowledge with the public. If you'd like to learn how to make delicious cheese, all you have to do is attend one of the various classes that Jenness teaches every month.
