Greece exists for many only in mythology. It’s where the gods and goddesses of old reigned supreme, where baklava is the dessert of choice and locals live life among historic structures like the Parthenon and Acropolis. It may be far from our sweet Tennessee home, but our landlocked southern state sure knows how to celebrate the homeland of so many of its inhabitants. The Nashville Greek Festival is perfect for folks who are looking to indulge in the beauty of Greece from half a world away.
The Nashville Greek Festival takes place in the late summertime, offering up an incredible, multi-sensory deep dive into the Greek experience. Whether you're enjoying new food or wandering booths chock full of authentic Greek jewelry and clothing, it's bound to give you an experience to remember.
This year, the festival will celebrate its 31st year, quite the feat for any festival. What can we say? Tennessee loves Greek culture! Though, of course, you may already know that from its moniker, "The Athens of the South," and the Parthenon that sits pretty in the heart of Centennial Park.
The festival takes place at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Nashville, at 4905 Franklin Pike. For three days, the church grounds transform into an incredible oasis of music, savory eats and sweet desserts. You can shop stalls of locally made Greek goods, like jewelry and handcrafted wares.
The food that's available on site is also well worth an investment. From spanikopita to dolmades, Greek-style meatballs to the ever-popular gyro, come hungry and leave nice and full.
The broad range of authentic Greek food is incredible and wildly entertaining. This is where you have the space and opportunity to experience an explosion of new flavors from the comfort of your Tennessee home.
Even the tiniest Nashvillians take part in the fun! Make sure to take part in the dance lessons and exhibitions throughout the festival as well. It's a rollicking good time!
Have you been? Would you visit? Make sure to mark your calendars for the 2019 Nashville Greek Festival on September 6-8. It's going to be an absolute blast, and we've given you a whole lot of time to plan for it. See you there!
