The Gold Rush was truly the golden era of railroad travel in the state of California. After all, we had to find a way to transport all that ore we were mining. The Sacramento RiverTrain pays homage to this fascinating era with a unique train ride that is both endlessly fun and surprisingly educational.
Cruising along at a pleasant speed of 10-15 miles per hour, the RiverTrain's six-car train will wind through the stunning countryside, starting from West Sacramento to Woodland in Yolo County.
However, the highlight of this unique train ride is what happens about halfway through the excursion. The train will stop and passengers will get out to explore a lovely riverside park.
At the park, passengers of all ages will be able to take part in their own gem mining! This way, you can feel like an authentic gold miner seeking fortune in the early days of California.
The train ride is roughly around two and a half hours. Lunch isn't included in the price of the train ticket, but passengers are welcome to pre-order a lunch or breakfast (with bottomless mimosas!) before the day of the trip. Light concession snacks and beverages will also be for sale inside the train.
