In nearly every region of New York, you can find a zoo that allows you to see all types of animals you’ve never seen before, but often this is an experience you have to share with the masses. We certainly have some charming small-town animal parks that you can check out, but if you’re looking for an even more intimate experience with wildlife – then look no further. Hidden away in the mountains where you’re far from any crowds, discover this wonderful wildlife refuge for a day that you’ll never forget.
Tucked away not far from the banks of the West Branch of the Ausable River where you’ll have beautiful views of the mountains, the Adirondack Wildlife Refuge and Rehabilitation Center sits on 50-acres of land.
The Adirondack Wildlife Refuge and Rehabilitation Center is a non-profit organization in the small town of Wilmington that’s dedicated to the wildlife rehabilitation and education - housing a variety of animals for visitors to see.
One of your favorite parts about your visit here will be getting to see the staff interact with the animals, showcasing just how much love and effort goes into running this refuge.
The Adirondack Wildlife Refuge also hosts a Wolf Gathering talk daily at 10 a.m., and an Understanding Bears talk throughout the day as well, where you can learn more about the incredible animals that are here.
So pack up the car and hit the road, it's time to spend the day learning more about your local wildlife at the Adirondack Wildlife Refuge Center in Wilmington!
Adirondack Wildlife Refuge is located at 977 Springfield Road, Wilmington, NY 12997 and is open Thursday through Monday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. To find out more about the refuge, click here.
