The sight of a charming covered bridge in Northern California's stunning Gold Country welcomes visitors to Indigeny Reserve. Located in Sonora, this apple orchard and cider distillery is an epic day trip just waiting to happen!
Indigeny Reserve initially opened to the public in 2012 but it wasn't long before they were considered one of Sonora's top attractions. Sprawling over 160 acres of enchanting countryside, this place is utterly beautiful. But their picturesque location isn't the only thing they have going for themselves.
The owners, Jay and Judy Watson, bought the orchard in 2005. Containing over 50 varieties of apples, some of which date back to the early 1900s, it wasn't long before the Watsons realized that a lot of apples weren't suitable for selling. However, they were suitable for something else: cider.
The Watsons started brewing up their very own hard cider, along with infused brandy and vodka. You can swing by the tasting room today and sample these amazing ciders for yourself. There are several varieties to choose from, ranging from deliciously crisp to melodically sweet.
You could spend an entire day sipping on Indigeny's amazing offerings and learning about the cider-making process from the makers themselves. There's no charge for tastings, but you'll definitely find yourself taking a few bottles home for yourself.
Additionally, you'll want to carve out some time to explore the ranch's lovely grounds. Boasting picnic areas, tree-lined paths, and over two miles of hiking trails, there's a TON to see here.
Indigeny Reserve is a sweet getaway hiding out in the charming town of Sonora. Whether you're a cider enthusiast or you just love exploring Gold Country's hidden gems, this place is a must-visit.
Indigeny Reserve and its tasting rooms are open daily from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm Monday thru Wednesday, and until 5:00 pm Thursday thru Sunday. You'll find them at 4679 Summers Ln, Sonora, CA 95370.
