Best Hikes In Kansas
What are some of the best scenic hikes in Kansas?
Who says Kansas isn’t a beautiful place? We sure don’t. In fact, we might be a little biased, but we feel like Kansas is one of the best places in the United States for scenic hikes – especially if you prefer your hikes to be a little on the less-challenging side (see the next paragraph!). Some of the most wonderful scenic hikes in Kansas include the 357 Loop Trail at Wyandotte County Lake Park, which is 1.7 miles long, rated as easy, and has some truly breathtaking lakeside views. Also try the Mountain Goats Trail via the Backbone Trail in Iola, Kansas. That one is a hilly masterpiece with yet another lake view and plenty of stunning greenery all around. We also love the Agave Ridge Loop, at Cedar Bluff State Park, and South Lake Loop at South Lake Park. Want more ideas? Check out this list of 11 magnificent hiking trails in Kansas you need to check out before you kick the bucket.
What are the best easy hikes in Kansas?
Believe it or not, Kansas is actually home to more than 500 trails, and more than half of those are easy! Lucky us. It’s mostly thanks to Kansas’s flatlands, which ensures that the majority of hiking trails in the state won’t have much of an incline. Of the 200+ trails considered “easy” by hikers themselves, some of the best ones include the gorgeous Horse Thief Trail, at Kanopolis Lake State Park. It features a crystal-clear, sky-blue lake and some stunning flora and fauna. We also love the fascinating Monument Rocks Chalk Pyramids hike, which features some of our state’s most interesting and unusual geological formations, and the Seven Mile Creek Trail in Lansing is truly wonderful, too, especially if you love waterside trails. If you end up falling in love with the bizarre formations at Monument Rocks, you’ll also love the easy hikes that are the Mushroom Rock Trail (0.2 miles, Mushroom Rock State Park) and Castle Rock (1.5 miles, Castle Rock Badlands). The list goes on, but those are some great places to begin.
