Now that the New Year is here and we’re making our way through January, the heart of winter is truly starting to arrive. During this time of year, you’ll find many of your go-to attractions are closed until spring, but there’s still plenty of fun to be had in the city of Buffalo – don’t you forget it! We may be used to seeing Shark Girl down by Canalside or deer frolicking through Forest Lawn Cemetery, but there’s one location in the Queen City that will give you the opportunity to hang out with animals you’ve never laid your eyes on before.
Founded in 1875, The Buffalo Zoo is our country's third oldest zoo and is home to an extensive variety of creatures.
While the zoo becomes quite a popular place for out-of-towners to visit during the summer, it's always nice to visit during the off-season for a quieter outing that allows you to see the winter weather transform the zoo.
Trust us, if you've never seen the residents of The Buffalo Zoo playing around in the snow before, it’s an adorable experience that belongs on your bucket list.
In fact, the popular Polar Bear Days at The Buffalo Zoo runs through the entire months of January and February. Admission is just $8.95 for a full day of fun (and parking is free!)
However, one of the most exciting reasons to come here is that there are truly so many exotic animals that you wouldn't expect to find anywhere else - like these adorable Red Pandas.
These goofy little guys are native to southwest China and the eastern Himalayas. Unfortunately, Red Pandas are an endangered species and are becoming rarer and rarer in the wild, but you can see them here at The Buffalo Zoo. The best part? The love snow. It’s impossible not to smile when you see them romping around, and there’s no better time to watch them play than during the wintertime.
The zoo is constantly welcoming new babies, with the animals here frequently spawning precious new four-legged friends for us to come and meet.
