Do you find that shopping in this day and age lacks the personal touch it once had? While one-click-and-you-get-your- junk-within-two-business days is quick and convenient, it lacks a customized experience that only comes from person-to-person contact, which is why I happen to love this old South Dakota country store that is as friendly as it is charming:
The small town of De Smet, South Dakota may just be the most gem-of-a town in the state, as it is not only Laura Ingalls Wilder's beloved hometown but also the home of...
...the iconic Ward's Store & Bakery!
Situated in the town's old opera house, Ward's is the epitome of charming, thanks to both its down-home ambiance and friendly staff.
While most country stores are stale and generic, Ward's is anything but, thanks to their huge selection of locally made foods and goods...
...beautiful art and home decor...
...and freshly made gourmet coffees.
Oh, and are you hungry, because you won't find microwave burritos and bags of chips at Ward's, but rather hearty breakfast plates, burgers and sandwiches, and salads.
Ward's is located at 127 Calumet Ave. SE in De Smet and is open Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 6:30 a.m. to 11 a.m.
