There’s Only One Remaining Train Station Like This In All Of Texas And It’s Magnificent

Railroads are some of the best-preserved and most interesting aspects of history in our nation. They’re responsible for economic development, the spread of language and culture, and so much more. Right here in Texas, we have the last remaining structure of the Texas & Pacific Railway, and it’s a must-visit attraction.

Built in 1912, this depot is the last-surviving structure of the Texas & Pacific Railway shops complex. The district was originally comprised of 57 buildings spanning a whopping 66 acres.

Visually, very little has changed over the years. Although now served by Amtrak and taking passengers as far as Chicago and Los Angeles, the depot looks no different than it did over a century ago.

Today, it houses a museum dedicated to preserving railroad history. Train junkies and general history buffs will delight in learning all about the T&P, including telegraph and immigration offices located here during both World Wars.

Even little ones who can't quite comprehend most of the exhibits are sure to have a blast playing with model trains. How cute is this small-scale replica of the Marshall station?

Outside, you'll find a 2-8-2 "Mikado" steam locomotive. It was originally built in 1915 and was restored to peak condition a few years ago.

Several additional authentic Union Pacific rail cars are parked on the property as well. They make a perfect backdrop for family photos!

You'll find the depot at 800 North Washington St. Suite 2, Marshall, TX 75670. It's open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
