As the temperatures drop and the snow and ice fall, it’s tempting to stay inside rather than venture out in the cold Kentucky winter. But we live in a beautiful state that’s just as lovely when it’s cold, and there are many places throughout the Bluegrass that are great for getting some fresh air all year long. Located in Lexington, Jacobson Park is a popular spot in the warmer months for paddle boating, fishing, and playing in the sun, but this one Kentucky park truly shows off in the winter and is perfect for curing a little cabin fever.
Jacobson Park is a 216-acre property in east Lexington that's filled with outdoor fun all year long. It's a popular spot in the summer for boating, fishing, and its various play fields, but it's also lovely in the winter.
The reservoir in the park provides a home for ducks and geese, some of which stick around in the colder months. After a fresh snow, scenes like this are common throughout the park.

Perhaps the best spot during the winter is the grove of evergreen trees. In the summer, they provide shade, but in the winter they paint the park in the colors we often miss this time of year.
The trees are thick and perfectly lined up, making for rows upon rows of mesmerizing views. Since the canopy is thick, even in the snow you'll likely walk amongst the fragrant pine needles that fill the air with a truly wintry scent.
Sunrises and sunsets are magical in the wintertime, especially when reflected in the calm water.
If you live in Lexington or find yourself in the area this season, head here for peaceful scenery, wintry scents, and the rejuvenation that only being outside in Kentucky can bring.
Jacobson Park is a natural respite in the city of Lexington, and it’s just as inviting in the cold and snow of winter. Do you enjoy getting outside in this weather? Which parks do you love to explore this time of year? Let us know in the comments!
