After college, she chose to trade in her winter boots for slippahs and moved to the beautiful island of Oahu, where she has been living for more than five years. She lives on the west side but is constantly taking mini-road trips across the island and visits the neighboring islands whenever she can getaway. She loves hiking, snorkeling, locally-grown coffee, and finding the best acai bowl on Oahu.
Blue skies and sunflower fields might be more reminiscent of the American Midwest during summer than of the Hawaiian Islands, but our year-round growing season makes the islands ideal for various harvests — including sunflowers. While the sunflower crop at DuPont Pioneer has been postponed for 2018 due to excessive rainfall from tropical storms Lane and Olivia, there is one other dreamy destination on Oahu where you’ll find sunflowers this November. Hawaii’s sunflower blooms don’t last long, though, and you’re going to want to hustle to make it down to Waimanalo Country Farms before these magical flowers disappear as quickly as they bloomed.
Welcome to Waimanalo Country Farms, a gorgeous slice of paradise nestled near the southeastern tip of Oahu that hosts a variety of fun events throughout the year, including a showcase of their sunflower crop November 11th through the 18th, 2018.
The farm will be open to the public from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. during this time.
Nestled at the back of a residential area between the breathtaking Waimanalo Beach and the towering Ko’olau Mountains, this is easily the most gorgeous sunflower patch in the United States.
Once you park your vehicle, walk onto the farm and pay the $2 entrance fee, you’ll be able to hop aboard the trailer headed to the sunflower fields, where you’ll learn all about Waimanalo Country Farms.
Don’t forget your camera — amateur and professional photographers alike love to fill their SD cards with shots of these beautiful blooms at the base of the mountains.
A trip to Waimanalo Country Farms isn’t complete without ordering a mason jar full of their mouthwatering ‘Nalo Made Lemonade. I’m partial to their li hing mui lemonade, but I’m told the pineapple, mango and strawberry flavors are delicious as well.
You can even visit for their Rustic Fall Nights, held on November 16 and 17 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Enjoy the crisp country air, and be transported to another place at these fun themed nights.
What are you waiting for? Hurry up and visit this gorgeous farm while you can! Waimanalo Country Farms is located at 41-225 Lupe St., Waimanalo, HI 96795. For more information about their November 2018 sunflower bloom, visit their website or follow them on Facebook.
