Maine’s Hidden Farm Brewery Is Unexpectedly Awesome

Over the last few years, Maine has truly made a name for itself as one of the best craft brewing spots in the nation. According to Smartasset, In Portland alone there are 5.5 breweries per 100,000 people making it the the highest rate per capita of any city in America. Pretty impressive for a state that some people think is a part of Canada! While there are many from which to choose, consider making a trip to this small farmhouse brewery located in Waldoboro.

Odd Alewives Farm Brewery is located on Old Route One in Waldoboro, just down the street from Moody's Diner.

The tiny brewery is owned and operated by founders John and Sarah McNeil, who wanted to craft a beer that both refreshes and and sustains the body and mind.

The ales here focus on "the honesty of the product, variability of the seasons, and purity of the ingredients."

As brewers, artists and farmers the McNeils knew they had something special to bring to this small community in the midcoast.

The brewery and the tasting room can be found in their newly-renovated 1850’s barn.

You can taste the farm in each individual ale.

Case in point? They recently tapped Odd Fruit, a small batch farmhouse ale made with tomatoes from their garden.

The ingredients here are fresh, local and very Maine!

A visit over the summer might have introduced you to Odd Night, an herbal black ale using Horehound, Lavender and Anise Hyssop from their farm.

The more than 22 acres of gardens and forest make this an ideal place to gather with friends for casual fun or for special events.

And, to top it all off, they even have what every good brewery needs: a brewery cat!

Odd Alewives Farm Brewery is located at 99 Old Route One in Waldoboro, Maine.They’re open Thursday and Friday from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday from noon to 8 p.m. and on Sunday from noon to 7 p.m. For more information, check out their website or visit them on Facebook.
