There’s nothing like spending the day basking in Vermont’s natural beauty, but some hiking trails are tougher than others. Here’s a trail that leads to a glorious view, but most Vermonters will never see it because this hike is downright grueling.
The Hellbrook Trail is the shortest trail to the top of Mount Mansfield, but you'd better be prepared for a seriously strenuous journey.
The scenery along this trail is jaw-dropping, which might distract you a little bit from the pain you'll feel as you make your way up 2,683 feet in just over two miles.
This is not a trail for inexperienced hikers. When the trail is wet (which is often), it's especially slippery and dangerous, so if you attempt this take plenty of precautions.
The view from the top is absolutely stunning. Most people will never see this in person. If you manage to conquer this trail, you'll want to spend some time soaking in this sight before you head back down.
Plan to spend a half day hiking this trail. While it's just under four miles roundtrip, it's so difficult that it will take longer to navigate than you might expect.
