The Stockman House Is The Most Unique Home In Iowa

Iowa gets a bad reputation for being a flat state full of farms and cornfields. Luckily, those of us who live here can challenge that reputation by showing off all the unique, quirky, and unusual treasures that are hiding in plain sight. One of these is a quirky Frank Lloyd Wright House, located in the heart of Mason City.

Mason City is known worldwide for being a city full of brilliant architecture, but one home, in particular, stands out.

The Stockman House was sort of an accident: Wright was in Mason City to build City National Bank and the Park Hotel when he was hired to build this unique home.

A local family, the Stockmans, hired the architect to build their new home, and it quickly became an iconic part of city architecture.

Today, a plaque marks the home's history, and daily tours are given to visitors for just $10.

The Stockman House was originally located in Mason City, Iowa at 311 1st St. SE but was moved to 530 1st St. NE to avoid demolition.
