Going out to eat in the United States has often turned into grabbing a quick bite or rushing through a meal to get on to the next thing. Some restaurants even pride themselves on getting you in and out the door as quickly as possible. However, if you’ve ever traveled to Italy or know anything about their food culture, then you know that Italian dining is the opposite of fast. Sharing a meal is literally that, and you can have that divine experience at this tiny restaurant in Louisville. At the Italian Table is a 20-seat culinary treat that can be hard to get into, but the food and atmosphere make it so worth it.
At The Italian Table is a small, unique restaurant in Louisville located between the Crescent Hill and Clifton neighborhoods. This is not just any Italian restaurant, as you will be transported to an Italian table at this authentic eatery.
There are only 20 seats available for reservations Wednesday through Saturday at 7 p.m. These book up weeks in advance, which shows just how many have discovered (and love) this gem of a restaurant.
The two tables of 10 diners are treated to a multi-course, authentic Italian meal, prepared by Italian American chef Gina Stipo. Stipo lived in Tuscany for 13 years, where she owned a cooking school and deepened her love for the country and its incredible culinary traditions. Thankfully, she chose Louisville as her home when returning to the states.
The menu is determined by the chef and is carefully chosen based upon the season and what ingredients are freshest. While the offerings vary, you will always get to enjoy many classic Italian dishes and flavors.
As everyone arrives for what is called the Communal Meal, an aperitivo is served and then everyone takes a seat at the table. The meal begins with an antipasto and continues with fresh pasta or risotto, a meat and vegetable, salad course, and dessert.
Fresh pasta is Chef Stipo's specialty and it beautifully represents the region of Tuscany. If you'd like another authentic experience, she also teaches cooking classes - you can learn more about them here.
Dessert is a sweet way to end your dining experience and, of course, espresso is served alongside it. When you do manage to snag a reservation here, remember to slow down, and enjoy each bite.
Savoring a meal here is a one-of-a-kind dining experience in Kentucky. It allows you to relax, enjoy each bite, have meaningful conversation and connections with new friends. It's like a tasty trip to the Italian countryside, right inside this little restaurant in Kentucky.
At the Italian Table brings the experience of dining in Italy to Kentucky and this foodie destination is worth the extra effort to get a reservation. Have you been lucky enough to dine here? Is it on your bucket list now? Let us know in the comments!
