There’s something so amazing about getting to look out from on high to see all the amazing fall colors taking over Wisconsin at this time of the year. We don’t have much in the way of mountains here in the Dairy State, but up in Wausau, you can find one of the taller points atop Rib Mountain. The highest point is just under 2,000 feet and there’s a state park with an observation tower that gives you sweeping views of the Wisconsin River valley down below. While you’re here, definitely take advantage of the views from the park, but the best reason to come to Rib Mountain in the fall is to take the Granite Peak Ski Area chair lift up the mountain.
What better way to see the gorgeous fall colors here than to ride right through them? Getting to feel a part of the forests and trees as you glide through them is one of the very best ways to experience fall.
Granite Peak is one of the best ski areas in all the midwest and you'll want to head back when winter hits, but before the snow flies, take time to ride up to the top of Rib Mountain using the ski area's chair lifts.
The chair lifts are large, meaning you and your whole family can enjoy this experience together. Tickets must be purchased online in advance due to the attraction's wild popularity.
Colors in this area are vibrant during the peak of fall foliage, and you get to experience them in this totally unique way. Instead of looking over them or hiking under them, you feel like you're right next to them up, up close and personal.
The ski area has a lodge atop the hill, so you can take the lift ride up and spend some time outside enjoying a drink and taking in these breathtaking views.
This unique ride is only offered for a short time each fall, so make plans with your family to spend time exploring Rib Mountain State Park and enjoying the beauty of the season in Wisconsin.
