One of the largest cemeteries in the state is also (inevitably) one of the most haunted cemeteries in the state. Ghosts of centuries past are believed to walk the grounds at night, in spite of the cemetery’s peaceful presence during the day. Lake View Cemetery in Cleveland belongs on every ghost hunter’s bucket list. Take a look:
Lake View Cemetery is home to more than 100,000 graves and occupies 285 acres—which can only increase the chances of it being haunted.
You'll find it at 12316 Euclid Ave., Cleveland, OH 44106.
Established in 1869, this massive cemetery is peaceful for many, however it's also filled with eerie mausoleums and creepy statues that you wouldn't typically find at graves.
Many notable individuals are buried here, including John D. Rockefeller, President James A. Garfield, and Eliot Ness, who was known for modernizing Cleveland's police force but was unable to catch the infamous Torso Killer.
The up-side-down torch held by the angel is said to symbolize an extinguished life—which is eerie enough in itself.
The black tears, however, are what make the statue truly chilling. Is it mere weathering of the bronze? Or do the rumors of faint weeping noises mean the gravesite is haunted?
While the black tears remain somewhat of a mystery, the eerie presence of the angel is undeniable.
