Napa Valley, who? Idaho may not be the first place that comes to mind when you think of awesome wine destinations, but you’d actually be surprised to know that there is a lot more to the Gem State’s wine scene than meets the eye. For example, hiding in the foothills of southeastern Idaho is a one-of-a-kind winery that boasts the most impressive views. Oh, and the wine is pretty dang good as well! 3 Horse Ranch Vineyards is one of our state’s best kept secrets and it’s a must-visit destination for wine enthusiasts.
Tucked away in the foothills outside of Eagle, Idaho is a winery called 3 Horse Ranch Vineyards. A long drive may be required to visit this place for a tasting but trust us. You'll be so glad you made the trip.
3 Horse Ranch first opened their doors in 2002 and since then it's become the largest family-owned winery in all of Idaho! It's third in production only to St. Chapelle and Sawtooth wineries. The husband and wife duo may have taken a gamble when they moved to Idaho and opened their 46-acre vineyard, but it looks like it's paying off.
The first thing you'll notice that sets 3 Horse Ranch apart are the awe-inspiring views which surround the entire winery. The hills seems to go on forever, with no signs of civilization in sight! We really can't imagine a better place to taste some of the most highly rated wines in Idaho.
It's vineyards like this one that are slowly but surely putting Idaho on the map when it comes to wine. In 2011, 3 Horse Ranch was named the "Idaho Winery To Watch" by Wine Press Northwest magazine. Earlier this year, their merlot won best of class at the Seattle Wine and Food Experience Wine Awards. The awards speak for themselves and you're bound to agree.
So it's safe to say that a visit to these vineyards is a must for wine lovers. Their tasting room is open from Wednesday through Sunday from 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Alternatively, the vineyard holds many events throughout the season which make for the perfect excuse to make the drive out to this spectacular place.
For example, their annual "Vineyard Walk" will take place on September 29 this year. This is an informal walk and talk in the vineyards so you can learn all about the wine that you're consuming.
The long drive out to this remote vineyard is worth it for the views alone. However, the award-winning wine isn't a bad way to top off your visit. You'll find 3 Horse Ranch at 5900 Pearl Rd, Eagle, ID 83616.
Have you visited 3 Horse Ranch Vineyards? This place looks amazing! We can’t believe more people don’t know about this awesome winery. Did you know there’s a winery in Idaho that lets you stay the night? It’s true! Read all about it here.
