This humble food truck serves mind-boggling barbecue, so it's no wonder it came in #35 on Southern Living's list. Owner and pit-master Tom Micklethwait opened his establishment in 2012, and people haven't stopped talking about it. You may have seen his eye-catching brisket on The Travel Channel or Food Network. It's popular for good reason. Get yourself a two-meat special for $14.50 and taste the most exquisite pulled lamb and pork shoulder in Austin. This local gem was named the 17th best barbecue joint in the South, but many Austinites would make it number one. Valentina's Tex Mex Barbecue combines two of locals' favorite cuisines, and the end result is positively bewitching. Scarf down some brisket tacos or smoked carnitas. If you stop by the food truck in the morning, you can kick start your day with an epic pulled pork burrito. These incredible dishes often sell out, so it's a good idea to arrive early! Not surprisingly, Franklin Barbecue scored the highest of the Austin restaurants on Southern Living's list and came in at number 7. This little eatery has garnered a cult-like following, and people are willing to wait in line for hours just to taste it. It's not uncommon to see locals playing games along the street to pass the time. When they finally reach the front of the line, the barbecue tastes even better than they could imagine. If waiting in line isn't your style, you could always place your order ahead of time -- at least three weeks prior.
