Murray City Park is one of the most beautiful parks in the entire Salt Lake Valley.
On any given day, you'll hear cheers from the soccer fields, the splashing of families at the pool, and the laughter of children on the playgrounds.
But some recent visitors have reported something disturbing - two ghostly children that may haunt this park during broad daylight.
Several visitors to the park this summer have witnessed something that they can't explain - two children, both of whom seem distraught, disappearing right in front of their eyes.
This enormous park has four playgrounds, and these spots are where most of the sightings have occurred.
A young boy and his little sister appear to be around five and three years old, and when park visitors first see them, nothing seems amiss.
In one instance, a mom watching her kids play noticed the brother and sister, both of whom had tears running down their faces. She approached them to see if she could help, but as she got close, they disappeared. Shaken, the mom asked other parents around the play area if their kids were missing, but all the children were accounted for. Another man at the playground confirmed that he'd seen the crying children too, but when he looked for them again a few moments later he couldn't see them.
Another man walking through the park also claims to have seen the children near the creek.
He saw them sitting near the bank, and called to them that they shouldn't be so close to the water. As he spoke, they disappeared.
Other people claim to have seen the children near the water fountain, hesitating as if they're afraid to get a drink.
One woman offered to hold the fountain for the little girl, but when she turned around, both children were gone.
The two children never seem to make a sound, and the sightings have always been during broad daylight, in various spots in the park.
Since the children are so young, many people have approached them to ask where their parents are, or if they're lost. As soon as they speak to the kids, they vanish into thin air. Multiple members of one family even saw the kids during a family party held in one of the pavilions. One woman asked the kids if they'd like some food. She turned to get them plates, and when she turned around, they were gone. She stated that she only had her back turned for a few seconds, and that there was no way the kids could have disappeared so quickly - there's a large lawn area around the pavilion, and if they had run, they would still have been visible on the lawn.
Most ghost stories are connected to known deaths in the area where ghosts are supposedly sighted. Not so with this latest string of ghostly sightings.
There's nothing in the past history of this beautiful park that would lead anyone to believe that it would be haunted by two young children. But several accounts over the course of the summer all seem to be similar...and more than a little creepy.
What do you think? Is this supposed haunting just a new urban legend, or are visitors to Murray Park really seeing the ghosts of two young children?
