Complimentary travel perks may be thin these days, but the least that most people expect when they buy a train ticket is actually be transported on a train.

As it turns out, one of the country’s most popular train carriers could start switching its passengers to buses due to new safety regulations.

A congressional deadline demands that all rail companies in the U.S. switch to something called positive train control (PTC) by January 1, 2019. This is a new safety system that prevents engineers from going too fast and colliding with other trains.
