Nobody Has Ever Been Able To Visit This Forbidden Place In Colorado... Until Now

You have grown up hearing tales of a top secret place in Colorado that only the top government employees have ever seen; a place that is said to keep us safe, but sounds more like a made-up place out of a movie… do you know what I am referring to? Until recently, no one has ever been able to get close to the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD), but will soon be able to, as it is finally being open to the public.
Dubbed the highest peak in El Paso County, Cheyenne Mountain sits at 9,570 feet and is quite possibly one of the most famous mountains in Colorado - not just for NORAD, but for its other attractions as well.
Just what attractions are we talking about? For starters, Cheyenne Mountain serves as the backdrop for the iconic Broadmoor and Cheyenne Mountain Hotels...
Billed as being "equal parts world-class meeting facility and four-diamond resort," Cheyenne Mountain Resort sits on 200 lush acres and is home to luxurious rooms, spas, pools, and more.
...Cheyenne Mountain Zoo...
Located above Colorado Springs, Cheyenne Mountain Zoo is the nation's ONLY mountain zoo and sits at an elevation of 6,714 feet above sea level!
...and Cheyenne Mountain State Park.
Covering 1,680 acres, Cheyenne Mountain State Park has ample trails and unique prairie-to-peak ecosystems, making for the perfect daytime outing for the entire family.
Because most of the mountain has never been open to the public (as it was once a privately-owned homestead), nobody has had the opportunity to explore the tip-top of this nearly 10,000-foot-tall splendor, which makes its opening all the more exciting.
The top of Cheyenne Mountain will boast the new Dixon Trail, which has been under construction since 2011 and is already being spoken of as the Colorado Parks and Wildlife's "crown jewel."
The Dixon Trail's opening has been temporarily pushed back (as the CP&W are working to build a safe, sustainable trail) but will open soon, so be sure to check the Colorado Parks & Wildlife's website for the latest updates.
