Nowadays, it seems like a new “big box” grocery store can be found on every corner. Although there are certainly many pros to shopping at these stores in terms of convenience and selection, they really don’t compare to the charm of those neighborhood markets from the past. Back in the day, the corner shop played an important role in the community…and it still does. This old-fashioned grocery store is like a little slice of the good ol’ days and you’ll definitely want to pay them a visit the next time you’re in town. After all, they just don’t make them like this anymore.
Hiding out in Pocatello is an adorable neighborhood market that feels like something from decades ago. In fact, this place has been around for decades and it doesn't look like they're going anywhere anytime soon.
Nel's Bi-Lo Market has been a beloved part of the Pocatello community for years. The original owners opened up shop back during the 1940s. Back then it was known as "The Little Chief". It's changed owners over the years but it's always remained a family-owned and operated venture.
The community's love for this old-fashioned market is clear. It was even voted "#1 Grocery Store" in the Idaho State Journal Readers Choice Awards. This place may be small but there's one thing this place does extremely well that sets it apart from those big chain grocery stores—customer service.
From the moment you step through the door, you'll be treated like family. Customer service is one of those things that will never go out of fashion and it certainly shows here. On top of their friendly demeanor, Nel's is also known for their quality meat selection and their local produce and dairy products.
They are also notable for their offer called "Meals In A Box". This offer includes seven meals for four people and costs just $60. You choose the meals you want and they'll do the shopping for you. All you have to do is pick it up. Putting delicious meals on the table every night has never been easier!
It's obvious that this place isn't just a grocery store. It's the place where you go to make memories. Whether you're just popping in to pick up some meat and chat with the deli clerk or you're a kid stopping by after school to grab a soda and candy. These types of stores may be harder to find these days, but they'll never completely die out.
This type of charm is hard to find in grocery stores these days. Visit Nel's at 333 N. 15th Pocatello, ID 83204. They are open 7:00 am to 9:00 pm Monday through Saturday. They are closed on Sundays.
