Leah moved to North Dakota when she was 12 years old and has traveled from the Red River Valley to the badlands and many places in between. She loves small-town life and currently enjoys living on a small farm in the ND prairie. She's always had a passion for writing and has participated in novel writing challenges such as NaNoWriMo multiple times. Her favorite part about this job is recognizing small businesses that deserve a boost and seeing the positive affect her articles can have on their traffic, especially in rural areas that might have otherwise gone overlooked.
As the leaves start falling and North Dakota’s few forests start becoming alight with color, you’ll probably want to get out there and experience it while it lasts. After all, this state’s fall season is pretty short compared to the long winters we usually get. While you have the chance to enjoy it, here is one town that is absolutely perfect for a day trip during September and October for the truly beautiful scenery that surrounds it. Plus, it’s absolutely charming on its own. Check it out:
Take a drive out to the wondrous Sheyenne State Forest while it's full of color this fall. While you're there, you'll definitely want to stop by the charming little town nestled within it.
Though the town may be small, it is full of fun things to discover and a lot of history. You can see anything from a viking on a hill to this century-old general store that's been made into the county museum.
The park has a lot more than just trails. It holds a lot of history, just like the town. This includes an entire historic farmstead with a house, barns, and everything you'd need for the most picturesque setting.
Campgrounds, cabins, and yurts are also available for use at Fort Ransom State Park. Drive in from the Sheyenne Valley National Scenic Byway and stay the weekend for the ultimate fall foliage getaway.
While you're in the area, stop by some of Fort Ransom's local shops and restaurants - you won't be disappointed. The Lunchbox Eatery, shown below, is a great example of the kind of places you'll find in this town.
Fort Ransom definitely is one of the best places to visit in North Dakota this upcoming season if you’re looking to leaf-peep. Once those leaves start turning, the whole place becomes a masterpiece of color with charm to boot. The town is located about 30 miles south of Valley City.
Not ready to give up those summer vibes just yet? You’ve still got some time to head out to the lake for some outdoor fun. Here are a few great options for you!
