When you visit Sequoia Park Zoo in Eureka, you're visiting a century-old attraction that has been providing family fun for generations. The zoo first opened its doors in 1907, making it the oldest zoo in the state of California.
The zoo's age isn't the only thing that makes this park so unique. Boasting just a tiny 5-acre plot of land, it's also one of the smallest accredited zoos in the country. Despite its small size, this park has proven to be one of the most unique attractions that Northern California has to offer.
The zoo is home to hundreds of different animal species including familiar "barnyard" species and more exotic animals. One of the most notable features of the zoo is the Red Panda exhibit. These creatures are extremely beautiful yet highly endangered. Seeing them in person is something that everybody should experience.
The Barnyard is bound to be a hit with the young ones. This is a hands-on experience in which you'll get to meet lovable species such as donkeys, alpacas, goats, and sheep.
The park is full of one-of-a-kind experiences such as "The Secrets of the Forest" exhibit. This exhibit features animals and organisms from the redwood forest which surrounds the park. A visit to this exhibit is a great way to get to know one of Northern California's most iconic ecosystems.
The zoo itself may be small, but you'll find that there are all sorts of treasures outside of the zoo that are worth checking out. For instance, a stunning botanical garden can be found just adjacent to the park, complete with a charming little well and hundreds of beautiful flowers.
The redwoods are also easily accessed via the park. You'll find all sorts of walking and hiking trails that are great for strolling along after you've had your fill of fun at the zoo. You could easily spend all day exploring everything this gorgeous region has to offer.
For an amazing family-friendly experience you'll remember for years to come, plan a visit to Sequoia Park Zoo. Admission is $10 for adults, $7 for seniors, $6 for children, and free for children under two years old and zoo members.
