Snorkel Alaska will take you to the perfect snorkeling location at Mountain Point, Ketchikan’s premier snorkeling destination. Enjoy a glimpse of Alaska’s intertidal marine life and fun day in water.
They will set up each person with a toasty warm wet suit to keep you protected and comfortable in the water. Wet suits are state of the art, 1/4 inch, 7 millimeter thick and include hoods, boots, and gloves as well as masks and fins.
After everyone is geared up, they will transport you to the spot. Mountain Point has both shallow tide pools teaming with marine life and steep underwater rock walls for freediving.
Tours are guided by friendly and knowledgeable guides who know all the sea creatures and will keep everyone safe. The water will reaches a comfortable 65 degrees on most warm summer days.
You will be supervised by guides who are in the water with you to keep tabs on the open ocean and the potential for danger, including humpbacks and orcas. Professional staff will monitor your adventure every step of the way.
A variety of colorful sea creatures can be seen in the tide pools including giant Sunflower Stars, sea stars, massive bullwhip kelp forests, sea cucumbers, sea urchins, varieties of fish, rock scallops, rock crabs and more.
Tours last 3 hours, with a little over an hour of time in the water. Your day includes a one-hour guided marine life tour of the underwater world.
Of course, you may be snorkeling with orcas. They tend to pass by in the ocean farther out than the snorkelers, but you will probably share the ocean with these magnificent animals.
