Rabbit Lake Trail – Chugach State Park
15154 Canyon Road
Anchorage, AK 99516
The Rabbit Lake Trail lies in the Chugach State Park. It is open for hiking, biking and backpacking from April through the fall.
The trail begins as a single track old road bed and eventually opens up to a wider trail. It is 4.4 miles each way to the lake and back.
The path is a long, moderate climb up to the alpine meadow and the lovely Rabbit Lake, the dreamiest swimming hole in Alaska.
There is no shade along the path, so be prepared for a sunny trek. But, you'll be so ready for a dip in the cold water by the time you reach the end, it'll all be worth it.
Dogs are permitted on the trail as long as they are on a leash. The whole trail is rocky, however, so dogs may need hiking boots if their paws are tender.
Your reward at the end of the trail is a crystal alpine lake, a scene more vivid than a postcard. The water is cool and clear, the scenery simply magical.
Mountain bike the trail for an invigorating and exciting adventure. You'll be ready for a dip in the swimming hole after the intense ride up the mountain.
The Rabbit Lake Trail is by far the dreamiest swimming hole in Alaska. You'll adore the pristine wilderness, the clear mountain water and the beauty of Alaska.
The trail is also beautifully adorned in color in the fall, although the water is a little colder. It should be great for day hiking through most of October.
