It’s not very often you find something so spectacular in Oklahoma that you can’t find it anywhere else in the world. That’s the case in the small town of Jet, Oklahoma, in Great Salt Plains State Park where unique hourglass-shaped selenite crystals form under the surface. In fact, they are so rare, you can only find these crystals in the Sooner State.
Take a look at this natural wonder every Oklahoman should see at least once.
Head to northwest Oklahoma to Great Salt Plains State Park to find these extraordinary crystals hiding under the barren landscape.
Digging season is open from April 1 - October 15 and visitors can dig for free. Just bring your shovels, buckets, and sunscreen and enjoy a day exploring this unique park.
No permit is required to dig and each visitor is allowed to remove up to 10 lbs each, plus one big cluster. Once you start digging, the kids will never want to leave!
If you would like to see the incredible landscape but don't feel like digging, check out the newly built viewing platform. It provides a bird's-eye view of the digging area and surrounding scenery.
