Rhode Island has some first rate beaches and everyone has their favorite summertime spot. In fact, our sandy shores are so beautiful that tourists flock from miles and miles away just to take a swim and enjoy the views. But there is one beach that is reserved more for the locals and it isn’t just a summer destination. Rome Point changes from season to season and it offers something special to its visitors all year long.
The John H. Chafee Nature Preserve in North Kingston is also known as Rome Point. It's shoreline on the Narragansett Bay is a state treasure.
You'll have to take a hike to reach the beach. The trails crosses through woodlands and lands you right at the beach.
During the warm months, Rome Point is a popular spot for clamming and fishing.
You'll also see many boaters out on the local waters.
Enjoy lounging on the beach or taking a stroll.
Enjoy hunting for seashells and starfish, there are plenty to collect at this coastal spot.
During the spring and fall when the summer heat fades away, bring your dog out for a walk.
Catch sight of some wildlife in the area. You'll often catch see deer in the fall and winter when the leaves are off the trees.
As the colder weather sets in, bundle up and head out to this beach for a magical sight.
From November until March, the migrating seals from Maine and Maritime Canada can be seen lounging on the rocks off of Rome Point.
No matter what time of the year it is, the sunset is always stunning at this ever-changing beach.
