Texas is full of refreshing swimming holes to cool off in this summer, but none other than Hamilton Pool have a giant waterfall pouring into them. Whether you sit on the limestone rock with the droplets cascading over you or watch the steady stream from a distance, you won’t be able to get enough of the most gorgeous hidden gem in the Lone Star State.
Formed by thousands of years of water erosion, Hamilton Pool is truly one of the most unique places in Texas. This collapsed canyon is reminiscent of a magical grotto from a Disney movie, and it's sure to bring out the wide-eyed child in everyone.
The water comes from Hamilton Creek, a swift-flowing stream that spills over a limestone overhang into this breathtaking 50-foot waterfall. It never completely dries up - even when the area is in a drought.
Hiking to the preserve only takes a few minutes, and the walk is full of diverse plant life as well as a variety of bird species. Despite the brief trek, Texas heat doesn't take long to catch up with you. You'll be more than ready to jump into the breathtaking, sapphire water that awaits you!
When you need a break from swimming, there's plenty of exploring to be done! A set of stairs takes you up into the canyon and leads you around its walls, allowing you to marvel at all its bumps and curves and realize just how much force was required to shape this beautiful natural wonder.
Perhaps the most picturesque scene is this limestone rock directly underneath the falls. Have a friend or family member take a picture of you sitting atop it for a memento you'll cherish forever.
Hamilton Pool is located at 24300 Hamilton Pool Rd., Dripping Springs, TX 78620.
Reservations are now required to swim and can be made here. Be sure to check the park’s website before heading to the pool (even after you’ve booked a time slot) because it closes from time-to-time when water levels are low due to high amounts of bacteria.
Have you ever visited Hamilton Pool? What’s your favorite thing about it? Ours is definitely the waterfalls in Texas.
