If there’s one thing the binds Arizonans, it’s our love of food – and in this case, sweets! You don’t have to be a native Arizonan, either, to want to try the ice cream at this iconic old-fashioned ice cream parlor in Phoenix. Mary Coyle’s has been dishing it up since 1951 and is a bona fide sweet tooth institution by now.
Generations of families have been making the trek to Mary Coyle's for 67 years, ever since Mary first moved to Arizona from Ohio.
There's a menu with all the normal ice cream favorites, and sure, you can get a 'single scooper' and be done... but WHY? When there's so much more to discover on their incredible menu?!
And another sweet surprise? Mary Coyle's believes if you're gonna go big... then GO BIG, or go home. Even their ice cream sandwiches are nearly bigger than a mouth can handle.
If you're bringing the whole crew, then there are some treats on the menu that just cannot be passed up. The House Specialties include a few super-sized creations that put other ice cream shops to shame. A menu selection called "The Hill" bypasses a bowl altogether and is, instead, served on a platter. It's FOUR POUNDS of ice cream delight, plus whip cream and cherries and two toppings!
Of, if you prefer something a little larger, you can order "The Mountain." The Mountain includes scoops from 7-9 of your favorite flavors and SEVEN POUNDS of ice cream. Wow! That's a huge bowl of ice cream! But don't forget to add the four toppings, the granulated peanuts and the whip topping! Oh my.... Want more?? Okay!
The biggest ice cream specialty at Mary Coyles is called "The Grand Canyon." It's perfect for large families, and even better suited for, maybe, a little league ball team. The Grand Canyon includes ELEVEN POUNDS of ice cream, six toppings, whip cream and cherries, plus a bowl of nuts and two scoops to serve it up. (You can also expect several empty serving bowls to accompany this massive heap of ice cream.)
Whew! What a delight! Whether you're up for a small treat, or one of the house specialties, it's easy to see why families have been flocking to Mary's for the better part of seven decades!
