Located about six miles south of the city of Sheboygan right on the shores of Lake Michigan, Kohler-Andrae State Park is one of the most unique and beautiful parks in all of Wisconsin. One of the last natural, wild preserves along the Great Lake, Kohler-Andrae is marked by windswept, sandy dunes that lead to two miles of pristine beaches.
This gorgeous park is so unique because it contain the meeting of two very different ecosystems. The beachfront area is delicate dunes and seagrasses while the inland area is home to a river and a marshy woodland area.
There are miles of cordwalk through the sand here, letting you travel through the delicate ecosystem. The sand undulates and rolls, creating dunes and hills on the way to the waterfront.
Despite being just miles from Sheboygan, the lakefront area here feels incredibly wild and like you could be in a fantasy or sci-fi movie.
The landscape can seem barren and foreign, but it's also incredibly beautiful and calming.
Then the dunes open up to the blue water of Lake Michigan and you see the wildness of the dunes meet the wild waves of the lake.
There's really nowhere else in the state quite like this amazing landscape that's constantly moving and changing with the weather.
The sand can be volatile and subject to the winds coming off Lake MIchigan. The landscape never looks exactly the same here, no matter how often you come back.
Kohler-Andrae is a gorgeous, unique, wild spot along Lake Michigan that's been virtually untouched for hundreds of years.
You'll love the sense of peace and quiet that comes with wandering among the sandy hills here.
And the sense of tranquility that comes when you finally make it to the beach and can relax and watch a stunning sunrise over the lake.
Kohler-Andrae State Park is located at 1020 Beach Park Ln., Sheboygan, WI 53081.
