Memorial Day weekend tends to always be the kickoff of the summer. Pools open up and the hot summer weather begins!
If you don’t already have any plans for this Memorial Day weekend, I would suggest checking out one of these awesome four festivals and concerts!
1) The West Virginia Dandelion Festival in White Sulphur Springs takes place from May 22nd - 25th, 2015.
This year, the Dandelion Festival in White Sulphur Springs is packed full of things to do! The festival begins on May 22nd with the opening ceremony. On May 23rd, the fishing derby takes place along with a Superhero 5K, a car show, an art exhibit, and many more contests and events! The festival also has many bands playing to celebrate and remember all of those that have served our country.
2) The Civil War Reenactment at Carnifex Ferry Battlefield State Park takes place on May 23rd.
This Memorial Day weekend, the Carnifex Ferry Battlefield State Park will host the "Unreconstructed Rebels" reenactment. Read all about it on https://www.carnifexferrybattlefieldstatepark.com/events.html!
3) The East River Mountain Town Band at Pipestem Resort State Park takes place on May 23rd.
This FREE evening of music by a community band will be performing all kinds of different music, including patriotic music! This band has over 60 members and is directed by Concord University graduate and retired Mercer County music instructor, Mel Saunders. This concert takes place at the Pipestem Outdoor Amphitheater beginning at 8 p.m.
4) The Alderson Goodson Boys Memorial Day Concert takes place on Memorial Day, which is May 25th.
This Memorial Day Concert takes place on the Alderson Memorial Bridge, in rememberance of all of those that have served. The concert begins at 6 p.m. and is completely FREE!
Memorial Day weekend to me is always about my Nana. Her husband served and ending up passing away at a very young age. She always has a beautiful arrangement of flowers that we take to his grave site every Memorial Day. Typically, we’ll all go out to eat with her or cook-out at someone’s house.
