The UVM Morgan Horse Farm has been caring for, training and breeding Morgan horses for 140 years.
Figure was a remarkably athletic stallion who was highly sought after as a breeding horse. His genetics were unusually strong and he produced offspring with much of his remarkable qualities.
A wealthy philanthropist named Colonel Joseph Battell began breeding Morgans in the late 1870s. He had a keen interest in preserving America's first breed of horse and saved the Morgan from extinction.

Battell built this showpiece barn to house his world-class collection of Morgans in the 1870's. He wanted the line to continue and deeded the farm to the U.S. government in 1907.
