The small town of Wrangell is located on the northern tip of Wrangell Island in the Alaska Panhandle, about 155 miles south of Juneau.
You can find the trail head off Third Street, or it can be accessed from the public library by way of a set of stairs at the end of McKinnon Street.
The area has a high rain fall rate and the boardwalk keeps hikers above the soggy trail conditions by keeping the path dry and safe for everyone.
The trail is almost entirely covered in wide, easy boardwalks and stairs. This fairly easy trail is about 0.7 miles one way and can be covered in about 40 minutes.
The path winds through the temperate rainforest and up to a great view of the town. The town is in the Tongass National Forest, one of Alaska's wilderness treasures.
Head up to the top of Mount Dewey for a breathtaking view of Wrangell. On a sunny day, this seaside town looks stunning and the crystal blue waters of southeast Alaska.
It's worth all the effort to reach the beautiful view at the top. If you time it just right, there are berry bushes that will provide a snack for the weary hiker while you soak it all in.
