There are some North Dakota must-haves that you’ll find in pretty much every home here. Whether they are things that are part of the way of life here or just happen to be a North Dakotan favorite, you’d be hard pressed to find a place here that doesn’t have them. How many do you have in your home?

1. Something in a camo pattern.

Whether you are a hunter or not, just about everything comes in camo these days. Clothes, furniture, blankets, accessories of all sorts - and North Dakotans seem to love it.
2. A fishing pole.

There is some awesome fishing in North Dakota, whether you go to someplace big like Devils Lake or your local pond or river.
3. A snow shovel or other such snow removal devices.

If you don't have a snow blower and are sick of breaking your back using a shovel, your neighbor probably has one they'd let you borrow - or heck, they might even just come over to your driveway and do it for you! North Dakotans are nice like that.
4. And proper winter gear. Boots, jacket, gloves, etc.

Winters here aren't exactly mild, so a North Dakotan should always be prepared for the worst.

5. Some sort of green college sport merchandise.

We have a lot of love for our two major college sports teams, the NDSU Bison and the UND Fighting Hawks. It's rare to find a home without any sort of fan items for them, whether it be a t-shirt, blanket, flag, sticker, or complete game day outfit.
6. If you're Scandinavian in descent: a lefse rolling pin.

7. If you're Germans-from-Russia in descent: a knoephla recipe card passed down from your mom, grandma, and so on.

And your family's recipe is definitely the best and you know it.
8. A welcome mat.

North Dakota is a pretty nice and welcoming state, the kind where people stop to talk in grocery stores (even if they are strangers) and still say hello to everyone who passes on the street. A welcome mat is a must!
