Hiking isn’t always about reaching your destination; there’s usually a lot of scenic beauty to soak in along the way. Summertime in South Dakota is when the wildflowers bloom, and you’ll want to take this trail in Spearfish Canyon to see the gorgeous colors.
It's hard to beat the spectacular beauty of Spearfish Canyon.
If you're looking for wildflowers this summer, Little Spearfish Trail is one of the best trails to take. You'll find the trailhead near Timon Campground off Forest Service Road 222 in Spearfish Canyon.
This pretty trail makes a 5.8-mile long loop. It takes you over wooded hills and across pretty wildflower meadows. The hike is rated easy, and is suitable for most hikers.
Wildflowers aren't the only draw of Little Spearfish Trail. Plenty of birds, butterflies and animals call Spearfish Canyon home, and if you pay attention, you can witness their splendor, too.
