Lifetime Adventures has a full range of activities for everyone to explore the gorgeous Eklutna Lake, just a short 45 minute drive from downtown Anchorage. They can accommodate anyone from the solo traveler to a large group.
The adventure tours are based in the Eklutna Visitor’s Center, run by Lifetime Adventure staff. This is your first stop for information on any of the available activities and trail maps of the area.
Kayaking on Eklutna Lake provides a profoundly serene experience. Rent a kayak for a short cruise or a longer trip, take a lesson, plan an overnight excursion, or bring your own kayak, whatever you desire.
If you want to explore on your own for part of the day, you can access the myriad beautiful trails the encircle the lake.
Eklutna Lake Recreation Area has over 26 miles of well-marked and user-friendly trails, and the biking and hiking opportunities are practically endless. You can spend the whole day and still have plenty left to explore on your next adventure.
Conditions on the lake are fairly predictable being calmest during the morning hours. West wind thermals increase during the day and make the lake a bit choppier, but usually not enough to prevent kayaking.
When strong winds come in from the east, kayaks are not rented.
The Pedal & Paddle combination tour has you kayak across the full 8 miles of the lake where a bicycle will be waiting for you. The smooth, fun ride back is a fabulous way to spend the afternoon.
You must arrive at the adventure center before 10:45 a.m. to participate in the Pedal and Paddle program.
You can also make a longer trip of it and stay the night at the lake in a wall tent. An Alaskan dinner is provided and drop-off/pick-up service from Anchorage or the Mat–Su Valley.
Once you try kayaking on this peaceful lake, you will be hooked. Enjoy the morning hours quietly paddling the water's edge.
Eklutna Lake is rich with opportunities for outdoor activities and accessible fun. Bring your group here for an unforgettable adventure kayaking on a turquoise lake in Alaska.
