Shhh, we’ve got a secret for you. Idaho is one of the most underrated foodie destinations in the world. It’s true. Our state may not be known for world-class dining options, but believe us…they’re here! You just have to go out and find them. Sometimes you accidentally stumble upon a culinary gem without even trying. That’s what most people experience when they dine at this charming backyard restaurant. This place may not look like a five-star restaurant. Heck, it doesn’t even look like a restaurant at all. However, you’re about to find out that there is much more this place than how it appears.
Nestled at the very top of state's panhandle is the utterly beautiful town of Clark Fork. Surrounded by beautiful scenery and with a population of just 500 people, Clark Fork is like a little slice of heaven in north Idaho.
The town is situated upon the banks of the majestic Clark Fork River. The natural beauty is this small town's pride and joy, and it's been well-known among Idahoans as an ideal recreation destination. It's certainly not known for their culinary scene. However, it should be.
Travelers passing through Clark Fork often find themselves driving down 4th street which is the main road in town. They may spot the bright red house on the side of the road that boasts signs saying "beer garden" and "Open for dinner" and decide to stop for a quick bite to eat.
The Squeeze Inn doesn't look like much. Situated in what seems to be a small house, it barely even looks like a restaurant. However, you're about to find that this place is a true culinary treasure hiding in a small mountain town.
Inside, the environment is cozy and inviting. They say the restaurant received its name because guests have to quite literally "squeeze in" once inside! On a weekend, the dining room is filled with the sounds of live music and smell of delicious food in the air.
Most patrons are surprised when they receive the dinner menu. Duck breast? Calamari steak? Homemade ravioli? This definitely isn't your run-of-the-mill small town food. It's obvious the restaurant's owner has a passion for bringing good food to Clark Fork.
The patio area is perfectly quirky and charming. The vibe of this place is certainly unique! However, there's really no place you'd rather be on a warm summer evening.
As is true of many small town restaurants, Squeeze Inn definitely has some eccentricities. However, the food speaks for itself and rivals the experience you would have at any "city restaurant". The next time you're in Clark Fork, be sure to stop by.
You'll find the Squeeze Inn at 220 4th Ave, Clark Fork, ID 83811.
