While there was once a time when our area was nothing but farmland and wide open space, that landscape is long gone in Cincinnati. These days, our downtown, neighborhoods within city limits, and surrounding suburbs are filled with homes, businesses, and industry, so you don’t see many farms until you get out of town a bit. However, there are 122 acres in Evendale that have remained fairly unchanged for many generations and today is a farm that everyone can enjoy. Gorman Heritage Farm is a charming destination in the heart of Cincinnati that aims to teach, inspire, and preserve the importance of farming, and it’s a spot every local should experience.
Gorman Heritage Farm is a 122-acre working farm in Evendale, just minutes from downtown Cincinnati.
As you can see in the photo above, it is surrounded by neighborhoods, businesses, and highways, yet it remains a peaceful and natural oasis for learning and exploring.
The farm's previous owners, Dorothy and Jim Gorman, worked the land as a family farm, which it had been for generations.
In 1996, they gifted the farm to the Cincinnati Nature Center with the goal of turning it into a heritage site where the community could learn about farming and its impacts. In 2003, the farm was then turned over to the Village of Evendale, which continues to run it through a foundation, its board of directors, the farm staff, and dedicated volunteers.

The farm is open year round and can be accessed with just a small fee.
You can visit and just wander around on your own, ask a staff member or volunteer for advice on what to do, or choose to attend one of their many events.

Their most popular event - and one you've surely heard of - is their annual Sunflower Festival which takes place in early October.
You will not believe your eyes as rows and rows of bright sunflowers bloom before you. There are also many other activities and entertainment to enjoy during the festival.
The beauty of this family-friendly destination is that it is in its natural state as a working farm. There are many different sections to visit and explore.
The property includes five miles of hiking trails, one of which takes you up the hill to an overlook with an incredible view of the Mill Creek Valley and the farm itself.
The farm is lovely all year long and has something for everyone.
It's a great place to take a group (contact them ahead of time), attend a day camp, or check their event calendar on their website for all of the exciting happenings.
The farm is committed to the community and ensuring that the Gorman legacy continues to teach the value of farming and the importance of hard work, nutrition, sustainability, and preserving the environment.
