Here in Idaho we are particularly fond of two things: waterfalls and hot springs. But is there a place in our state that combines the two? The answer is yes. The hike to this amazing waterfall hot spring is totally worth it because this place is sure to give you the soak of a lifetime. It really doesn’t get more relaxing than this! This hidden gem is bound to become your new favorite place to get away from it all. Check it out.
One of the greatest things about living in Idaho is discovering all the secret spots that offer something truly special. One of these spots is Pine Flats Hot Springs. This hidden gem is located near the Pine Flats Campground in Garden Valley, about an hour and a half away from Boise.
The hot springs can become pretty popular during the summertime, but if you time it right you may just get the springs to yourself. There's a brief quarter-mile hike to the hot springs, marked by a trailhead sign at the campground.
The trail is clear and leads you right to the springs. The last portion of the trail becomes pretty rocky, so use caution because the rocks may be slippery. As you approach, you'll spot an amazing little waterfall cascading down the rocks.
Underneath the waterfall is a natural geothermal pool that is perfect for soaking in. There are several pools in the area but this one is the hottest. The sight of the cascading water flowing into the pool is like something out of a dream. It doesn't get much better than this.
There are several pools beneath the top pool that collect the water runoff and are significantly cooler. The pools are small but they are downright heavenly. After all, you're completely surrounded by beautiful scenery.
Pro tip: there's a more "private" pool hidden by a bunch of rocks at the base of the cliff. There's nothing like having this beautiful pool all to yourself.
If you find that the hot spring is too hot, you can take a quick dip into the Payette River below. It's the perfect balance of hot and cold! This place truly has it all. Located in the heart of the Boise National Forest, Pine Flats is a wonderland of natural beauty and relaxation.
