The Chugach Mountains are absolutely mesmerizing with their beauty and grandeur, and nowhere more so than in Girdwood. The aerial tram rises from the base to 2,300 ft. in elevation. From the vantage point on Mount Alyeska, you can truly be in the southwestern Chugach Mountains.
The ride takes from three to seven minutes each way. The valley surrounding the resort has seven glaciers lining the rim and healthy spruce forests all around.
At the Upper Tram Terminal, there is an deck for observation providing panoramic views of breath-taking mountains, hanging glaciers, sparkling streams, resilient spruce, and a variety of wildlife.
The observation deck is the perfect place to enjoy a quick lunch or
a beautiful sunset. Peek through the on-deck telescopes to search for a moose or bear on the hillside.
From this vantage point, head out for a day hike or have lunch at the Bore Tide Deli & Bar. These breath-taking views won't get old as you spend the afternoon mountain high.
Early in the summer, check out the wildflowers and in late summer, the berries are plentiful on the mountainsides. There is also a glacier hike in the vicinity for the adventurous.
