Do you prefer to be around nature or do you enjoy urban amenities like fine dining and a good bar scene? Do you like art galleries and shopping or peace and quiet? If your answer to these questions is “Yes, all of the above,” make one of these Treasure State towns your next vacation spot. They offer a little something for everyone.
1. Whitefish
You might think of Whitefish as the place where tourists go to ski, but it has so much more to offer. You'll find practically every kind of food on the planet, charming coffee shops, art galleries, and even a vibrant nightlife at places like Latitude 48 and the Boat Club Lounge. Whitefish Mountain resort really can't be beat for snow sports, and the area has plenty of nature trails to tackle all summer.
2. Livingston
Livingston is home to a plethora of professional writers, perhaps because they're so inspired by the natural beauty that surrounds them. And between Sacajawea Park, the Livingston Depot Center, the chartered fishing tours, and catching movies at the Empire Twin Theatre, it's safe to say you'll never be bored here.
3. Butte
Every local history buff should make an annual trip to Butte. Between the mining museums (including one that allows you to tour an actual mine), the Dumas Brothel Museum and the Berkeley Pit, there's plenty to learn about Montanans of the past. You can even have a meal at our state's oldest continuously running restaurant, the Pekin Noodle Parlor.
4. Havre
While it's true that Havre doesn't have much of a nightlife, you can still belly up to the bar at The Golden Spike or Shanty Bar for a great time. This charming railroad town is a delightful place to spend a weekend, especially if you take the historic Havre Beneath the Streets tour. For nature lovers, the nearby Bear Paw Nature Trail offers scenic views and tranquility.
5. Helena
Our capital city is an absolute gem. The historic Reeder's Alley, the family-friendly Great Northern Carousel, the Last Chance Tour Trolley, the majestic Cathedral of St. Helena... these are just a few of the amazing attractions you'll find here. There are also plenty of hikes nearby, and if you'd rather just spend a lazy day at the lake with a beer in your hand, just head out to Lakeside on Hauser.
6. Belgrade
Most people think of Belgrade as a suburb of Bozeman, but this pleasant little city has a life of its own. Challenge yourself at Escape Room Montana, enjoy a cold one at Madison River Brewing, and enjoy one of the best steaks of your life at The Mint and you'll see what we mean.
7. Eureka
Eureka is the tiniest town on the list, but don't let its small size deter you from visiting. It's got art galleries, a movie theater, the Farmers Market at Riverside Park, museums, tasty food, and the visually stunning Lake Koocanusa Scenic Byway.
8. Kalispell
Whether it's family fun, outdoor activities, a day of shopping or a date night you seek, you'll find it all in Kalispell. Herron Park is a must-see, and Moose's Saloon will fill your belly with the best pizza in town.
9. Big Sky
Between hiking the Beehive Basin and skiing at Big Sky Resort, it's no secret that this town is a haven for nature-lovers. But don't skip the town itself -- it's where you'll find some amazing beer-drinking (at spots like Beehive Basin Brewing), shopping at Beehive Basin Brewing , and restaurants like Olive B's Big Sky Bistro.
