It’s an interesting thing, the oldest building in Nashville. The city itself has gone through so much flux in the last two hundred years that each historic spot tends to bleed into the next, everything important and influential and tour-stop-worthy. Still, when we went out to find the oldest place in downtown Nashville we were a bit shocked – in the best way – that we could eat lunch and dinner right inside. Do you know what we’re talking about…?
The oldest building in downtown Nashville was build in 1810, and it's still in fairly solid condition. It used to operate as a livery stable and some folks believe that the Nashville once-residence was used as a stop on the UnderGround Railroad. But now?
It's our beloved Pancho and Lefty's! It prides itself as Nashville's, "Oldest newest restaurant" and serves delicious Mexican fare to the masses, especially post Preds-games.
The casual restaurant also offers up a tequila bar that gives a contemporary spin to a classic favorite. Mexican street food gets a makeover in the heart of historic downtown.
Tacos, tequila and beer are lit in highlighter yellow on the Pancho & Lefty's website, and they're available in large quantities once you make your way inside. We find that the historic space - which few know about - only adds to the fun experience.
The service is quick and kind, and we'd recommend taking a look at their lunchtime combo options. The two taco lunch is more than enough to keep folks filled, and there's nothing like a hot chicken taco to make it feel like a true night in Nashville.
Did you know that Pancho & Lefty's was located in such a meaningful spot? Pub5 used to call the old building home, but has made way for the popular Mexican spot. Come for a margarita and hang out on the rooftop - it's well worth your Friday night!
You can visit for yourself at 104 5th Ave S in Nashville, Tennessee from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m Monday through Thursday, until 12 a.m. on Friday and Saturday with an early closing on Sundays at 9 p.m.
