From breathtaking waterfalls and secluded trails to unique nature getaways and unexpected wildlife, there’s always something new to discover in the Buckeye State. This summer, consider taking a road trip through some of Ohio’s most impressive outdoor destinations. You’ll likely appreciate your home state more and maybe even see it in a new light. Take a look at the route we’ve mapped out below:
If you’ve yet to hike the Old Man’s Cave trail at Hocking Hills State Park in Logan, you’re truly missing out. It’s arguably the most beautiful hiking trail in Ohio—and it will make you feel like you’re temporarily living in a Lord of the Rings film. At approximately one mile in length, this gorgeous trail takes about an hour to complete, so it’s perfect for a day hike you can take your time exploring.
In addition to the great outdoors and beautiful cabins, The Mohicans in Glenmont feature some mind-blowing tree houses (complete with electricity, heat, AC and running water) available for overnight stays. Indulge your inner child and spend a night in the trees. (Pictured is Little Red Treehouse.) Explore the Mohican Forest before you leave the area and enjoy the scenic drive.
Ohio's only national park in the northeast region of the state is a must-visit for any nature lover. Within the park, there are several beautiful highlights and trails to explore, particularly The Ledges Trail (pictured), which features an area that was once covered by an ancient sea. Melting glaciers helped to form what are now captivating ledges you can hike through. There's also a breathtaking 65-foot waterfall within the park (also pictured) that flows from Brandywine Creek. Known as Brandywine Falls, these easily accessible, beautiful falls are a popular highlight within the park.
After your second day of adventure, experience glamping at its finest on the grounds of Ohio's own safari. This luxurious private yurt features running water, Asian-inspired decor and a personal deck next the Wilds’ animal pasture areas. Be sure to take a tour of the grounds before you leave for a truly unforgettable experience.
