The recent warm weather beckons Marylanders to finally get outdoors and explore. For a unique hike in the state, check out the following spot. It’s actually home to some of the northernmost bald cypress trees in North America, which is impressive, indeed.
Head to southern Maryland to find Battle Creek Cypress Swamp, located in Calvert County.
Once you arrive, visit the nature center for a bit and then prepare to explore the great outdoors.
This underrated gem preserves one of the most northernmost bald cypress swamps in the US. This is a rare find, since bald cypress swamps are usually associated with southern states like Louisiana.
Take to the short and sweet boardwalk trail, which is 0.4 miles in length.
Marvel at the sky high trees that surround you...
...and keep your eyes peeled for unique formations (and wildlife) on the ground as well.
Be sure to look out for the signs around the swamp, that will give you more tidbits on the area.
You're free to walk the boardwalk trail as many times as you'd like, or perhaps follow your adventure with the other nearby trails at the park.
Because of its flat paths and short distance, Battle Creek Cypress Swamp is great for all ages. Come see why this underrated gem deserves your attention.
