It should come as no surprise that life in Nebraska is much more laid back than life in most other states. We enjoy a slower pace here, and we’re perfectly happy with small-town life. There’s a little town in Frontier County that embraces and embodies this slower pace of life, and once you see how sweet it is you’ll want to visit.
Curtis is located south of North Platte and north of McCook in the lovely Medicine Creek Valley.
The town is probably best known for its annual Easter pageant that draws in spectators from around the country. The unique celebration has earned it the official title of "Nebraska's Easter City."
Curtis is close enough to larger cities that residents can take advantage of their amenities, but distant enough that it's still a cozy, family-oriented, relaxed community.
But that doesn't mean that residents have to leave Curtis to find what they need. The little city has a grocery store, banks, a post office, a K-12 school, a library, and even a volunteer-operated movie theater.
Curtis is home to the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture, a unique two-year school that prepares future agriculturalists for rewarding careers here in Nebraska and elsewhere.
This sweet little community is dedicated to staying vibrant, even as other cities of its size are dwindling in population. It offers a monetary incentive to families with school-age children to encourage them to stay in Curtis long-term.
In fact, you can even get a free plot of residential land in Curtis if you build a home there within a specified time period. There's a similar program for commercial lots to encourage businesses to grow in the city. Curtis's very low cost of living makes it an even more attractive place for Nebraskans on a budget.
Residents can expect to enjoy recreational activities like a swimming pool, tennis courts, playgrounds, parks, a new walking trail, and great hunting and fishing, to name just a few.
Would you believe this tiny city also boasts one of the best short golf courses in the state? Arrowhead Meadows Golf and Recreation Area features nine holes set against the beautiful, verdant scenery of the Medicine Creek Valley.

Although Curtis is laid back, it’s certainly not boring or stagnant. The residents are all very involved in the community, and city leaders are constantly brainstorming new ways to keep Curtis alive and thriving. It’s a wonderful place to live or simply to spend a few days exploring the beautiful scenery and recreational areas.
