Are you looking to have a quick weekend getaway before summer hits? There are plenty of great little spots around the state to enjoy a weekend away from home and if you’re hoping to enjoy some time by the Colorado River with pieces of history, delicious food, and unique little attractions, then we know of just the place to visit. So, pack your weekend bag, fuel up, and get ready for a great little getaway in Yuma.
Located in the far southwestern corner of Arizona right along the Colorado River, Yuma is the last town you’ll encounter before leaving the state for California or Mexico.
The city has more than 300 sunny days throughout the year and, while it sees some ridiculously hot temperatures in the summer months, it is a mild haven in the winter and spring months when the temperatures are delightfully warm.
For example, you can visit the Yuma Territorial Prison State Historic Park, which was once a state-of-the-art prison complex during Arizona’s territorial days. The prison may even be haunted!

For another piece of history, there is also the Colorado River State Historic Park, once known as the Yuma Quartermaster Depot.
Travel about one hour north of the city to visit Castle Dome Mine Museum, which features a reconstructed version of the river town Castle Dome Landing.
Another fascinating spot located a drive outside of town is Arizona's very own Bridge to Nowhere.
The McPhaul Suspension Bridge doesn't have political controversy associated with its existence, but it is one stunning spot you'll want to visit, especially as the sun begins to set.
For a bite to eat, head over to Lutes Casino - an eclectic little restaurant that serves some amazing burgers in an oddball environment.
Afterward, satisfy your sweet tooth with a sundae from Solano's Homemade Ice Cream, where you'll find an impressive selection of artisan ice cream made on-site in some fascinating flavors.
